What the Gold Coast Does to Security Equipment
This is the part most quotes skip. The Gold Coast is a salt-air environment, and cheap camera housings do not survive it. On beachfront and canal-front properties we regularly replace three-year-old cameras that have corroded at the gland and let water into the housing, along with the cheap unshielded cable that was run with them.
Specifying for the coast means marine-grade or properly rated housings on exposed elevations, stainless fixings, correctly sealed cable entries, and surge protection that accounts for the storm activity this stretch of coast gets every summer. Gold Coast Sites We Work On
High-rise and body corporate. The Gold Coast has more high-rise residential stock than anywhere else in Australia outside Sydney and Melbourne. Common property CCTV, lobby intercoms, lift access control and car park entry all sit under the body corporate, which means the committee carries the privacy obligations as well as the security ones. We specify camera coverage that protects common property without pointing into anyone’s lot, and document it so the committee has something defensible.
Holiday lettings and second homes. Properties that sit empty between bookings need entry that resets between guests and monitoring that works when nobody is there. Code-based or app-based access removes rekeying between every guest.
Hospitality. Cafes, restaurants and bars from Burleigh through Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise, where the useful coverage is till points, back-of-house doors and the delivery entrance, not the dining room.
Retail and commercial. Southport, Robina, Bundall and the Gold Coast Highway strip, including multi-tenancy buildings where access control has to work with the base building system.
Industrial. Yatala, Ormeau, Molendinar and Arundel, where perimeter coverage, loading bays and after-hours contractor access are the real exposure.
Integration, Not a Pile of Separate Products
The most common thing we find on Gold Coast sites is three generations of equipment from three different installers, none of it connected. Do salt and humidity really affect security cameras here?
Yes, noticeably, within a few hundred metres of the beach or a canal. Correct housings, stainless fixings and properly sealed cable entries are the difference between a system that lasts a decade and one that fails in its third summer.
